FITTING & INSTALLATION GUIDE
Kid Pilot Seat Fitting
The Kid Pilot seat fits most modern analogue mountain bikes – including bikes with steep, sloping or tapered top tubes. It’s even suitable for carbon frames.
Kid Pilot Seat Measurements
The Kid Pilot seat has a range of adjustment to fit top tubes from 30 – 68mm wide, and down tubes from 30 – 100mm wide. Most modern analogue mountain bikes are within these specifications.
The Kid Pilot seat fits over the top of your top tube, and secures underneath your bottom tube. The max distance between the top tube and bottom tube of your bike where the shotgun seat mounts can not exceed 210mm.
The Kid Pilot Seat Will Not Fit...
Electric bikes (due to the larger frame sizes. We are strongly against people modifying the Kid pilot seat. Modification of any component goes against our safety guidelines and warranties)
Road or gravel bikes (due to the lack of clearance between the front wheel and down tube)
Cruiser or step-through bikes (due to the lack of clearance between the front wheel and down tube)
Bikes with a single frame tube
Some older bikes where the gear or brake cable runs along the top of the top tube (however cables that run elsewhere on the bike are fine)

Collapsible content
1. Positioning The Seat
- Loosen the bolt located inside the seatpost mount so that the support arms can slide apart freely.
- Place the seat over the top tube of your bike frame.
- Make sure the seat does not interfere with cables, bottle cages, or other components.
- Position the seat approximately 200–300 mm behind the handlebar stem, depending on the frame design and the size of the child.
2. Adjusting The Support Arms
- Loosen the four support arm nuts.
- Pivot the arms forward or backward until the correct angle is achieved.
- Ensure the arms clear both the down tube and the front wheel.
- Tighten the four nuts securely to lock the arms in place.
3. Securing The Frame Clamp
- Once the support arm angle is set, squeeze the top brackets together so they fit snugly around the bike’s top tube.
- While holding the brackets together, tighten the seatpost bolt using an Allen key.
- Ensure the bolt is tight enough to prevent the seat from rotating during use.
4. Installing The Foot Pegs
Important: Ensure Steps 1–4 are completed before proceeding.
- Remove foot pegs and nuts from threaded axle
- Insert the axel though one supoort arm, screw on both nuts so they are central prior to pushing axel through the second arm
- Attach the rubber foot straps to both footrests.
- Screw both footrests onto the axle by hand evenly. Stop tightening when they lightly contact the metal support arms.
- Adjust the axle nuts outward by hand until they are just touching the inside of the support arms.
- Once correctly positioned, firmly tighten both footrests by hand.
5 Installing The Quick Release
- Select the most suitable mounting position for your bike frame.
- Insert the quick release so it sits under the top tube and above the down tube.
- Tighten securely by hand.
6. Installing The Saddle
- Slide the saddle onto the seat post and adjust it so it sits level with the ground.
- Tighten the saddle bolts securely to hold it in place.
- If the saddle rotates left or right during use, remove it from the seat post, tighten the seat post bolt further, and reinstall the saddle.
7. Pre-Ride Safety Check
Before riding with a child, confirm the following:
- The seat, saddle, and footrests are securely installed.
- The footrests have sufficient clearance from the front wheel. Ensure your child's feet remain clear of the front wheel at all times when turning handlebars and compressing suspension (if applicable).
- If contact occurs adjust the angle of the support arms, or move the seat further away from the handlebar stem, then repeat the test.
- Ensure no part of the child’s body or clothing can come into contact with moving parts of the bike.
- Re-check fit and clearance regularly as your child grows.
8. Removing The Seat
- Undo and remove the quick release.
- Unscrew and remove both footrests.
- Remove the axle, also removing the axle nuts as you go.
- Carefully lift the seat away from the bike frame.
